PASSION?? or PASSIONATE???

On 1st April 2008,most of the TESL 4 went to KLPac to watch the play entitled Passion. For me, this is a very different play compared to another play that I’ve watched before or compared to another play that I’ve learnt in the class.
In this play, there are no utterances or dialogue between the actors/actress. This play is like some sort of musical play with the actor/actress dancing on the main floor without any words appear from the mouth. Seems like they are not using their voice at all. Just the gesture and movement. Even in conveying their feeling, they just used the movement.
For me, this play is not interesting, not really catching my eyes on it. I don't really like the silence play as I think, it is the normal play, same as the previous one that we used to watched when we were in semester 1.
But, what to say! going watching that play is actually better than living me in my room, as I will get into a deep slumber.

Shakespeare Wallah

Talking about this movie, it’s kind of movie that is quite easy to understand.
This movie is talking about one family who is still loyal to the life play although the drama which can be seen through the television is spreading its wing at that time.
This family still prefers to run the business in making the play at their own studio but as the drama has became very popular, people seems attracted more to this new technology, television. The actors/ actress become popular over the level of the life play actor.
In this play, we can see how life play actor has been underestimated by the drama actress. But, with the spirit of Shakespeare and all of his playscript, this family who is very loyal to Shakespeare’s play continues their life in their very own way.
Overall, this movie is quite interesting as it has the different aspect compared to another movie, the actor and the actress. All of them are the Hindustanian but in this movie, they are talking in English.

A Streetcar Named Desire

What an interesting play it is! I like it very much. This movie is slightly different from the book that I have purchased. The ending in the movie shows that Stella leaves her husband while in the book the ending is ambiguous.
“A Streetcar named Desire” portrays two major characters which are Blanche DuBois and Stanley Kowalski. These two characters have obviously different characteristics. Blanche who experiences downfall in fortune is a fragile person. Stanley, on the other hand is a violent man. He is also abusive to woman rounds him. He hits Stella, his wife and he also rapes her sister in-law, Blanche. As a conclusion, we can see that every character has a very different trait.

How to be evaluated??????

Hmmmmm..... makes me feel really nervous.......till now, I'm not the chosen one to be called to present or in other word, to teach the whole class... luckily, I’m doing my micro teaching in pair..my partner??? of course Zuwariyah Adi. She is a good partner. Talking about the teaching, I'm sure that we are ready for this. After been told about this since several weeks ago, we prepared for this.
Hmm, the feeling to be evaluated? Of course and for sure I feel nervous, and sometimes my mind made a very positive thinking: “ahh, they are just my friends who’s going to evaluate me..so, there’s nothing to be afraid of.”. It is so amazing when my mind is guiding me to be calm. But, actually it is very rare to happen.
The preparation for the teaching day? Hmm, seems like both of us are ready to be a very good teacher for all my friends. Can we? Of course, because they are evaluating us. So, we must be a good teacher. For that time, I must beware of my language, my pronunciation and also my grammar. It is not something easy for me as I’m rarely using English in my daily conversation. So, I deserve it. I think, it is better for me to start using this language seriously.
There is nothing more to say.. Now, my partner and I just waiting for the time and….just wait and see.. I can’t promise anything, but I’ll try my best.

How to evaluate peer????

In evaluating my friends, there are several criteria that must be taken into consideration. I have to evaluate them based on their performance; I mean the way they are presenting their lesson. I realize that it is very hard to evaluate people if we are actually at the lower level than them, or maybe just at the same level as they are. That is the problem that I faced when evaluating my friends as I think I’m not good enough to evaluate them but I try my best.
To be honest, what can I say is I think all of my friends (who has finished with their session) did great in their presentation. It can be seen through their performance during their presentation. They dress well; as the teacher for the whole class. Then they conduct the class very well in their own way to attract students. They are very great; in my eyes.
The activities provided also one of the items which must be seriously taken into consideration. Hmmm, I think they are good enough in creating their own ‘killing’ exercises..Huh, quite nervous until there is another person called to answer the questions; as long as that person is not ME.

Teiresias-my hero

Teiresias is one of the important characters in the drama entitled Oedipus Rex by Sophocles. As we all know, Teiresias is a physically blind man. But, it does not mean that he is weak as he is actually ‘stronger’ than Oedipus. He is the blind man that comes to tell Oedipus the real situation but as Oedipus is the intellectually blind king does not accept Teiresias words. His coming to Oedipus’s palace is the starting to the misery of the king. Through this drama, we can actually see that Teiresias is a special character. Although he is blind, he knows everything happens accurately for examples, who are Oedipus’s real parents which Oedipus himself doesn’t know it. More, he knows who is the murderer of the former king of Thebes, King Laïos, who is actually Oedipus’s real father. For me, Teiresias is the character who is very special as he may does not has the ability to see but he can see through his heart.

Reflection on poem

The poem entitled ‘As You Like It’ by William Shakespeare has been used as the reference in discussing the stage of a man’s life. By looking at the meaning of the poem, I found that this poem is actually talking about the stages that have been passed through by a man in his life. It tells us from the day he was an infant and it goes stage by stage; becomes the school boy, then becomes the teenager who involved in love, and then he becomes the soldier(young adult stage), the justice(lawyer or judge in his matured adult age). Then, he turns to the next stage which is not been stated in this poem and lastly he is at his old age, the old man who got Alzheimer or maybe senility. This poem is a very great poem as it leads us to realize that everybody will get through the same stages.

Reflection on live stage performance

This time we have been exposed to the acting activity. We are given a very short dialogue and then we have to number the character on our own. There are some partners which have been randomly called to act in front of the class. Luckily, my partner and I were not the chosen one. So, basically we learn about stage direction through this activity. An open text can be harder than the closed text. I am also amazed how my friends came out in front of the class and performing the same dialogue with the different ideas. Some performances are quite boring, some of them are fun and almost lively. I just feel nervous and the only thing that bears in my mind is what if my partner and I are called to act in front of the class.

Reflection on first lesson

Now, the time has come. This is the time to start involving in the new field of literary devices. I learn about something new, the new course; Teaching the Language of Drama. Here, I was exposed to the introductory of drama. All my friends and I was taught to deal with drama; the type of drama which have been performed since the time of Sophocles, a very long time ago. We gain a lot of new information on drama for example; different types of drama may represent the different places such as Roman Theatre, Medieval Theatre and Greek Theatre. I also got the information about the two types of drama; the tragic play and the comedy play. I enjoyed this class as it helps us to gain more information and the basics in drama.

Reflection on questionairre session

As I answer the questionnaire on the last semester course on the first day of Teaching the Language of Drama class, I found that there are still a lot of weaknesses in my understanding about the element thought in that course, Teaching the Language of Short Stories. For example, I was tested on the understanding of the point of view and its types. I could hardly answer all those questions and I don’t really sure whether I gave the right answers. I have to identify the type of the point of view used in the text given; whether it is omniscient point of view or the first person point of view or any other choices we have. Honestly, I already forgot all those information and that is why I felt really nervous when I’m answering all the questions given.
